Album Review- House Of Protection: Outrun You All EP

After quickening more than few pulses last year with their debut EP, Galore. House of Protection have been back in the studio once again in 2025, complete with Bring Me The Horizon alumni Jordan Fish. Returning with their latest, provocatively titled EP, Outrun You All.

Born from the ashes of what was arguably Fever 333’s most venomous incarnation. House of Protection members Stephen Harrison and Aric Improta are no strangers to running rings around the competition. It also seems nigh impossible to talk about the state of modern heavy music without the aforementioned Mr Fish’s named being raised in conversation. Having left his fingerprints on everything from Architects to Poppys most recent efforts.

Combining the ferocity of Fever 333 with the production talents of a man who can seemingly do no wrong is akin to teaming up Hulk Hogan and Macho Man Randy Savage. Will their mega powers intertwine and make Outrun You All as tantalising a proposition in reality as it is on paper though?

Outdated wrestling references aside, Outrun You All definitely gets off to a strong start. After a trippy lo-fi trip-hop introduction that wouldn’t sound out of place in The Avalanches back catalogue. Afterlife kicks in with a slow groove. Driven by equal measures of distorted guitars and pulsating synths. Backed up by some beautifully minimalistic drumming from Improta that builds tension during the verses and ramps up perfectly to punctuate every chorus.

Follow up track, Fire, ups the tempo somewhat. With an opening gambit of “If you know what you desire, hit ’em with fire“. It’s the first track where the bands Fever 333 DNA is clearly evident. Especially when the cheerleader backing vocals kick in. Signalling an impending breakdown that hits like a heavyweight in their prime and brings it to a suitably powerful conclusion.

House of Protection aren’t ready to take their foot off the gas just yet however. As Godspeed pushes the envelope further still. Channeling the groups electronic influences and punk rock ethos in perfect symbiosis. It’s a track that begs for a darkened stage, capacity crowd and lasers for them to reach toward in adulation.

As Outrun You All Starts to wind to a close House of Protection really start to rattle through the gears. Starting the EP’s next track, I Need More Than This, with an overdriven bassline and reverb soaked drums that wouldn’t sound out of place in indie rock. I’m willing to bet that nobody has ever left Club Foot by Kasabian in a room full of steroids and psychedelics. If you did though, it would emerge a week later sounding like this and having stolen the guitar solo from The Bends. As well as Radioheads lunch money.

Phasing Out flips the switch back fully. Embracing the electronic influences that run deep through Outrun You All. Delivering a Pendulum-esque combination of drum and bass and ambience that cleanses the pallete. Before the band bring Outrun You All to a close with Slide Away. Which shifts back across into territory that Fever 333 fans will be much more familiar with. Thanks in no small part to a thunderous main riff from guitarist Stephen Harrison. Putting a formidable full stop at the end of an EP that manages to twist and turn it’s way through almost as many genres as it has minutes of runtime.

Unique is an adjective that’s often overused. However, when first tasked with describing Outrun You All after an initial listen. I was overwhlemed to the point where the only metaphor I could conjure involved an NSFW three way encounter between Fever 333, Kasabian and Pendulum. While Steven Wilson looked on approvingly from the hotel room in questions extra seat.

In short, it’s a lot to take in. When you take the time to fully absorb House of Protections latest EP though. The method in their madness really begins to shine through. While all of the elements at play are instantly recognisable. The end result is such an unapologetically unique assault on the senses that it leaves you both dumbstruck and simultaneously yearning for more.
