Album Review: Paleface Swiss – Cursed

Paleface Swiss is a band who has made a big impact in a short amount of time. Over the last 6 years they have managed to grab the world by the throat and make people pay attention. If people haven’t  wised up yet, then Cursed, their third full length album is about make them impossible to ignore.

This is a more layered album and one that feels deeply personal. Each song on the album is paired with a different flower. Further pushing the identity of each track, while providing additional context to lyrical themes within, especially for any budding anthophiles out there.

Cursed opens with a haunting take on the Folklore song Un Pobre Niño Murió enticing the listener back into the band’s world. Once that fades the carnage begins. Hatred slams out of the gate with all the ferocity & vitriol its name suggests. … and with hope you’ll be damned & Don’t You Ever Stop are both brutal soon to be classics.

Enough starts out as a hip hop call out aimed at online haters. It quickly becomes a nu metal beatdown resulting in one of the album’s highlights.  Youth Decay is a thrashy floor filler that manages to sound like Machine Head & Judas Priest had a maniacal baby. My Blood On Your Hands is dark and demented with Vocalist Marc “Zelli” Zellweger’s anguished cries tying the whole thing together.

River of Sorrows is lurching & dark with a ting of gothic folk to it. This gives the listener a moment to catch their breath. Filled with brooding melancholy, it closes the album out on a reflective note. It works perfectly as the sombre ying to the pummeling yang that proceeds it.

Overall Cursed is precise and efficiently executed. Everything has been distilled into its most lethal form. The heavier moments hit harder, while allowing the introspective and diverse elements to shine, resulting in an album of depth and maturity. 2025 looks to be the year that Paleface Swiss becomes completely unstoppable.

Cursed is out via Blood Blast Distribution on January 3rd, 2025. For more information or to preorder the album head here
